How Lanyards are Printed

There are two methods most commonly used for lanyard printing.

Screen printing is the most common method. This method is inexpensive, fast and effective.

Dye Sublimation is the other common method. This method is slower and a bit more expensive, but allows for multiple color printing with perfect registration (color alignment).

Lanyards are a rope or a strap that is usually worn around the wrist or neck with the purpose of carrying something (keys, whistles, USB) or having something shown for display (ID Cards).
The materials used for making lanyards are : nylon, cotton or polyester twill.
Like many other factory products, lanyards are cut from a larger piece of material which is then fed into a machine. This material has been dyed already with a specific base color. The machine then cuts the larger piece into smaller ones according to specifications. For the rope type you have narrower straps and for the strap type you have wider straps.

Rope lanyards are the cheapest available, but they lack in design and styles. Made from a rough surface it makes it hard to print various themes as you would do on a strap surface. Although they might lack in artistic features the rope type is excellent for people that love to use their imagination in creating amazing bracelets out of it.

In addition to its base color, the material will be printed with various themes and designs. Generally speaking there are three different printing methods used : dye sublimation, screen printing and hot stamping. Hot stamping is the most used printing method and it is also the cheapest.

The strap type has larger commercial value since their wider area provides an excellent place for display of logos, product names, company and team names. Also its production line is shorter compared to the rope type which has an extra weaving process.
Accessories

The most popular snap hook is the plastic one. A lot of people will go with that plastic but sometimes when they are dealing with a kid at school who is going to beat it up a little bit , they will go with the metal. Although the psychological factor is pretty strong here when it comes to durability of the metal in comparison with the plastic , in reality they are actually the same. This accessory is mainly used for ID cards clipping and bag clipping. They are also a key component of climbing ropes and any other lanyard used for safety gear.

Another accessory used mainly for ID cards clipping is the bulldog clip. This is less convenient compared to a hook but a lot of people prefer it because is somewhat more intuitive to use.

The split connecter is also a commonly used feature for these products. It is very easy to use and can be snapped back into place in an instant.

Other connects and accessories used are :

• O-rings – nickel plated steel accessory mainly used for attaching keys and whistles.

• Lobster Claw Swivel Hooks - a perfect alternative to the snap hook and bulldog clip

• The plastic grippers – with a silicon based core will secure your ID card without punching any holes.

• Adjustable neck cord locks – usually made out of plastic material.

Now the amazing thing about lanyards is that it can offer to the customers the ability to play and create their own individual lanyards. You just need a couple of lanyard rope stripes and some weaving instructions and you are set.
