Stray cats are cats that once lived with humans, but have either wandered away from their home or have been abandoned. They often maintain the ability to socialize with humans because of their past experiences. However, feral cats are the offspring of several generations of abandoned or free-roaming cats. They often create packs, which are called colonies, and have little to no human contact in the early stages of their lives. Because of their limited human interaction, people fear them or consider them a nuisance, mainly because these cats are mostly nocturnal, and have loud and often smelly mating habits.

The reason for the large feral cat population is due to a high percentage of pet abandonment. People think they can no longer take care of the cat, and that it will be fine living on its own in the streets. But letting a cat go without being fixed is the reason why there are so many in the first place. Feral cats are nearly impossible to foster due to becoming accustomed to living in fear for their survival. Thus truly feral cats can take years to become domesticated. The perpetual cycle is one of the reasons The Lanyards Store decided to take action and implement a TNR program.
